Sustainability as a core value

Sustainability is one of LeefJeNatuur's core values. As an association, we want to make our guests more aware of the value of nature and a healthy living environment for our well-being and survival. We invite you to help us take care of this. Under the motto “practise what you preach”, we find a number of examples at Holiday Home De Luysmolen:

Renewable energy

With the support of the Flemish Community, the old oil-fired boiler was replaced by a heat pump that is powered by solar energy during the day. The solar panels provide their share of green energy and the remaining electricity is purchased from green energy producer Meta.

Use of rainwater

The toilets at De Luysmolen holiday home are flushed with rainwater from our underground well in the garden. The outdoor taps at the holiday home are also connected to this.

Natural cleaning products

We only use ecological cleaning products for cleaning the house and washing linen and towels. We prefer to use refillable bottles and paper or cardboard packaging.

Individual wastewater treatment

The Luysmolen holiday home and the adjacent coffee house are located far away from the sewerage system. Our wastewater is discharged into the stream behind the property. However, before the water enters the stream, it is first purified by our individual wastewater treatment system. To ensure that the system works properly, we are not allowed to use aggressive cleaning products. By using the above-mentioned ecological products, we hope to meet this requirement. We purchase these products from De Groene Griet (Tielt Winge), among others.

Reused furniture

We have deliberately chosen second-hand furniture for Holiday Home De Luysmolen. The mainly solid furniture fits in perfectly with the historic character of the house. Some of the tables were made by us from reclaimed wood or locally sawn native wood from sustainably managed forests.

Washed, not ironed

Ironing bed linen and towels is not only a time-consuming and heavy chore, it is also very energy-intensive and offers little added value.

Our bed and bath linen is always washed clean with Mother Earth laundry sheets, which give it a pleasant scent. By avoiding hormone disruptors, synthetic fragrances and microplastics, we want to take good care of our health and that of our planet.
