Leenderheide (the Great Heath) in Achel
The Leenderheide, located half an hour's drive from holiday home De Luysmolen on the border of Bocholt Bree, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful pieces of heathland in the Limburg Kempen. Starting from the former abbey, you walk through the long avenue and between a few groves to this vast plain. From there, you enter a patchwork of heathland, scattered pine trees, birches and oaks, bare sandy plains that are gradually being covered with lichens and sparse grasses, old land dunes and mirror-like ponds.
In the quiet Kempen on the purple heath
When the heath turns purple from August onwards, this area is a must for true lovers of landscape photography.
