Not having the best day?
It is often said that there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing, but it can be a relief to switch to another activity when it rains persistently. The Bree and Bocholt area has a lot to offer in that regard.
Brewery history
The brewery museum in Bocholt is one of the largest in the country and houses a whole collection of old brewing equipment. Not only is the Bocholt brewery open to visitors, but the one in Opitter also welcomes guests on a regular basis.
De Oosthoek

We are all familiar with the military history of the Westhoek and the Battle of the Bulge. Much less well known is the wartime history of North Limburg. Here and there along the Belgian-Dutch border, you can still find restored remains of the “death wire” that was installed during the First World War to prevent Belgians from fleeing across the border. In World War II, this region was heavily defended by the retreating Germans against the advancing British troops. Did you know that the Belgian Piron Brigade was also part of this and helped liberate this region? Operation Market Garden was launched from the north of Limburg, more specifically from the garrison town of Leopoldsburg. Find out more about this operation and the origins of these barracks at the Liberation Garden museum.
