Highest land dune in Flanders
At 85 metres above sea level, the Oudsberg is by far the highest and largest drifting dune in Flanders. Since its recognition, the nature reserve has undergone a complete transformation. Since it was opened to the public, the area has regained its former glory with lots of sand, dunes with heathland, scattered trees and a fantastic view from the top. The Oudsberg is surrounded by extensive forests interspersed with mirror-like ponds.
A worthwhile effort
The Oudsberg itself is not accessible by car. The nearest car park is at the Zavelbos campsite. A 6 km walk will take you there and back. Once there, you can take beautiful landscape photos that will certainly reward your efforts. At the De Luysmolen holiday home in Bocholt, you can obtain a free walking map of this part of the Hoge Kempen National Park.
